About Kajal
Kajal Sharma is one of the UK's most respected Kathak practitioners — a dancer, teacher, examiner, and celebrated television artist whose decades of dedication to the classical form have shaped a generation of artists on two continents.
A trained performer in the Lucknow gharana tradition, Kajal is a proud student of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji — one of the greatest Kathak masters of our time. She has graced the stages of prestigious venues across the UK and India, and has appeared on Sky 1, BBC, and India's DDTV, bringing classical Kathak to mainstream audiences. She formerly lectured in performing arts at the renowned Dayalbagh Educational Institute in India.
Based in Manchester, she teaches at VOICE — a leading centre for South Asian arts — and examines for recognised classical dance boards. Her international student roster spans the UK, USA, Australia, India, and the Netherlands.
"Kathak is not just dance — it is a conversation between the body, the music, and the stories of a civilisation."Kajal Sharma
